The urn in the "sanctuary" style is angular in design and crafted using cabinetwork and marquetry techniques to achieve the decidedly architectural appearance of the piece.

  The corner columns are hand-turned on a wooden lathe  from an exotic wood species called bubinga (boo-BING-gah).  Other wood species include domestic maple in the main portion of the urn and exotic wenge (WING-eee) for the dark accent designs.  The top of the urn is black lacquer and the entire finish is satin.
